Grade Level: Kindergarten
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify a penny, nickel, dime and quarter
Students will be able to add different coins up to the sum of 25 cents
Materials:
1. Bag of mixed coins: 1 Quarter, 2 Dimes, 4 nickels and 4
pennies
2. Penny Worksheet
3. Nickel Worksheet
4. Dime Worksheet
5. Quarter
Worksheet
6. Cumulative Worksheet
7. Crayons
8. One of many coin books
Procedure:
1. Students will be divided according to table they sit at - 4 children per table
2. Hand out manipulative: bag of coins, to each table for later use.
3. Hands out packet of Penny, Nickel, Dime, and Quarter worksheets to each student.
4. Go over each worksheet, have students color coin in appropriate color with the crayons from the container (that’s always on their table.)
5. Go over completed worksheet: mention head and tail sides of each coin.
6. Have group empty out the bag of coins, ask for each group to hold up the penny, nickel, dime, and then quarter out of the bag.
7. Take a couple minutes and make piles of coins that equal 25 cents
8. Each group has to raise their hands and write a combination of 25 cents on the board. The answer can’t repeat the previous groups
9. Check answers on board with entire class
10. Hand out final cumulative worksheet to each student
11. The worksheet needs to be done individually and quietly
12. Go over answers with entire class
